How to Add a Survey to a Class

Purpose: This solution article will show how to add a survey to a class in SF Learning.

Step 1: Click on the Learning Administrator tile:

Step 2: Click on the Maintain Classes link and enter the Class you would like to add a survey to.

Step 3: Click on the Learning Components tab:

Step 4: Click on the Add Component button:

Step 5: Select Survey:

Step 6: Check the box that says “Internal Survey."

Note - the descriptive information is not important for the survey.

Step 7: After clicking on the box for Internal Survey, click on the magnify glass for the Survey ID.

Step 8: Choose the appropriate pre-defined survey for your class.

Step 9: Click the OK button:

Step 10: Now you can see a survey component added to the class. Next let’s click on the Completion tab.

Step 11: Please uncheck the Required and Passing Required checkboxes, the click on the Save button. We have run into numerous completion issues when survey’s are required for users. This setup will allow the learner to be marked complete for taking a class, even if they run into issues completing a survey.

If you would like to create a new Survey to use for a class, please follow the steps below:

Step 1: Click on the navigator at the top-right hand side of your screen:

Step 2: Click on Set Up ELM:

Step 3: Click on Catalog:

Step 4: Click on Survey Definition:

Step 5: Click on “Add a New Value”

Step 6: Enter the ID for your new Survey and click on the Add button.

Step 7: Here is where you can develop your own survey. Use the plus/minus buttons on the right hand side to add/remove questions. Please make sure to not make any questions required. Questions that are marked as required will not be visible to the users, so they will not know they are required to answer a question, causing confusion and frustration for the user.

Step 8: As you go along creating the survey, click on the Test Survey button to see how the survey works for the user.

Step 9: This is what the screen looks like after clicking on the Test Survey button. Notice how I made question #2 required but nothing to the user says that the question is required:

Step 10: Click Save to save your survey to be used as a Learning Component for classes.
