Position Request Explained for People and Pay
Previous Process in PS 7.5
In PeopleSoft 7.5, a requisition was submitted exclusively to fill a vacant position. Updates to existing requisitions were done through a separate Requisition Modification process. Requisitions were updated manually after DHR had approved a requisition modification.
New Process with People and Pay
In the People and Pay system, a Position Request is submitted both to fill a vacant position, and to modify an existing position. In order to distinguish their purpose, Position Requests are categorized into four different Request Types:
Fill a Vacant Position
Fill a Future Vacancy
Backfill a Position
Modify an Existing Position
DHR’s concern that the term Position Request could be easily confused with the Create a New Position process is valid, since the name does imply that the request is for a brand new position. The term Request to Fill, however, does not accurately describe the entire functionality of the process. During training, a strong emphasis is put on the use of Request Types, since that is what really distinguishes a position request. The term “Position Request” should be treated more as a generic term, which describes the process as a whole and not a specific function.
History of the Terms in eMege
The original name for this process was Request to Fill. After further analysis, the Team decided to change the name to Position Request, since the original name of Request to Fill implied that the process is to be used solely for the purpose of filling a vacant position, similar to the previous requisition process. But, the Modify an Existing Position Request Type necessitated the name change for the process to Position Request to make it more inclusive of all types of requests.
