The City’s new financial and procurement system is implemented through Oracle PeopleSoft, which replaces Index Codes with “Chartfields.” This article defines Chartfields and provides a translation of Index Codes and other FAMIS Elements to Chartfields.


Chartfields are used for accounting and are best understood as a code that tracks budgets and spending and through a schema of numeric IDs that are used as signifiers for Account, Department, Fund, Authority, and Project/Activity. A Chartfield  “ID” is a specific numeric entry which identifies a specific element within the Chartfield. 


The following table translates the Index Codes used in FAMIS to PeopleSoft Chartfields.
